In today's Western world, we live in a culture that tends to glorify busy-ness. Many of us have been told that more is better - more productivity, more achievement, more money, more doing. For some, rest is seen as laziness, and slowing down can feel almost impossible. This fast-paced way of living leaves many of us disconnected from ourselves and our needs. Reiki offers another way - a gentle reminder that everyone is worthy of rest, healing, and balance.

What Is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key ) is an energy-based practice that involves light touch or no touch. "Rei" translates to "spiritual", "higher knowing", "universal", or "sacred", and "ki" translates to "energy" or "life force." Most commonly, Reiki translates simply to "universal life force energy." Reiki is based on the premise that life force energy flows through all things. When that energy is flowing freely throughout our body, we feel balanced, calm, and whole. When it's blocked or depleted, we may experience stress, fatigue, or discomfort.

What Happens During a Reiki Session?

During a Reiki session, the practitioner usually checks in with you about how you've been feeling, any recent life changes, and any physical symptoms you're having. This helps the practitioner tailor your Reiki session to you and your needs, while still remaining open to anything that might be help you relax and receive more fully.

The client then lies fully clothed on a comfortable table, or in a comfortable seated position. The practitioner usually opens the session with a brief meditation or stated intention for the session, and begins channeling Reiki energy to the body. Typically, the practitioner moves slowly and gently around the body to change hand positioning and ensure a full-body treatment.

The practitioner will gently close the session and bring the client back to awareness of the physical space. Usually there is time and space for reflection and sharing any experiences or intuitions that arose during the session for both the client and practitioner.

Reiki offers a simple, restorative way to find balance in a fast-paced world. If you'd like to learn more or experience a session for yourself, explore my offerings and schedule a time that works for you.
