Virtual Reiki: What to Expect Before, During, and After Your Session

If you've been curious about trying Reiki or energy healing, but aren't sure how it works virtually, you're not alone. One of the most common questions I hear is, "Can energy healing really work, even without our cameras on? "

The short answer is: Yes! A virtual Reiki session can be just as calming, restorative, and effective as an in-person session. In fact, I find virtual sessions can seem even more powerful, because you get to experience it in the comfort of your own home (in your own bed, with your favorite blanket, and maybe a furry friend or two close by).
Below is a clear walkthrough of what happens during a virtual Reiki session with me, from start to finish, so you know exactly what to expect.
I discuss with my clients their preferences for how we do their virtual session - it can be done live with video on, live with video off, or with no connection via technology during the energy healing session itself. I recommend that all sessions start and end with some form of connection - either a text or an email about intentions, or an audio message with my reflections after your session.
Before Your Virtual Session
You'll receive an email with simple recommendations for preparation. It will include things like:
Finding a quiet, comfortable space where you can relax.
Gathering a blanket, pillow, eye mask, or anything that helps you feel cozy.
And if you'd like, having a journal, crystals, or your favorite grounding tools close by.
Starting the Session
If we aren't live, I will recommend you get as cozy as possible and tune into your breath at our agreed-upon time. I encourage clients to listen to calming music, binaural beats or frequencies, or a guided meditation during the session.

For a live session, we'll start by landing together in the space. We'll do a short check-in around how you're feeling physically, emotionally, and energetically, and set an intention for the session.
This process is very important - it helps your body shift from "doing" into "receiving" - which is where the magic happens!
What Actually Happens During the Virtual Session
You'll lie down or sit comfortably, and I'll begin tuning in to your energy field from afar. Using the same gentle energetic techniques that I use during in-person sessions, I will:
Tune in to the energy of your aura, your chakras, and your subtle energy centers;
Intuitively send Reiki to areas you may need it most;
Encourage healing when I sense stuck or stagnant energy.
Similar to in-person sessions, you may notice warmth or tingling, waves of calm, feeling "floaty" or deeply grounded, emotional release, and insights, imagery, or colors. Oftentimes, people fall asleep during their session!
How We Close the Session
If we're live, I will gently bring you back to the present moment with my voice and we'll talk through anything that came up during the session. Clients often describe this integration time as being just as meaningful as the energy work itself. If we aren't live on video or audio, I will send you any insights, reflections, or recommendations at the end of your session and I encourage clients to respond with anything that came up for them, or any questions they have after the session.
How You May Feel Afterwards
Everyone experiences virtual or distance Reiki differently, but common "side effects" could include:
A deep sense of peace and calm;
More clarity;
Emotional balance; and
Better sleep!
Sometimes people feel energized after their session, and other times, they feel like they want to take a nap. Both responses are normal - your session and your experience is completely personalized and unique to you.
